Sephora Custom Makeover

Recently I got an e-mail from Sephora saying that I had earned a free custom makeover, so I decided to redeem it the other day. I went for a look that is much bolder than my everyday makeup, but it was a lot of fun so I thought I'd share my experience!

I went with my mom, which I think threw off the makeup artist at first, who was friendly and very talented, but took a while to warm up to me. She asked me what I wanted, and I said I normally wear pretty natural makeup but would love to experiment with a cat eye since that's something I'm not very good at doing on myself. She then took my foundation shade using their little system thing and ran off to grab products.

*Things I especially liked

Like I said above, my make up artist was super talented, and I really liked all of the things she used on me. She also had fabulous makeup and totally inspired me to try out glitter on my lower lash line! I own the Stila liner and the Urban Decay shadow (it's in the Naked palette), but I didn't mind that she used them because they are things I love! The look was quite dramatic, which was so much fun for me because I am such a neutral gal.
The blush was a little much for me in the end, but I think she amped it up in an effort to work with the dark lipstick. I was excited to try the lip stain that she used, and while it was quite drying, the color was fabulous. You can see in the pictures that it dried a little patchy, which was the only problem with it, but it was fun to try!

She gave me lots of little tips along the way, but seeing as I'm already quite the beauty junkie, I knew a lot of what she told me. However she did give me some good ideas about how to apply bronzer, which I don't know much about, and also talked about how to get your concealer to stay put.

Overall I really enjoyed the experience and I was glad I redeemed the makeover. I'm also glad I went on a day where I just felt like trying things out, because I feel like I wouldn't have been able to experiment as much if I had asked for a more event specific look. At the end she gave me a sample of the primer and foundation, and I didn't feel pressured to buy anything, which was a nice change to my usual Sephora experience. I'm undecided about the foundation, I think I will have to work with it more on my own, but I definitely enjoyed having my makeup done!
Custom makeovers at Sephora are usually only available with a $50 purchase, or you can get a free one when you become a VIB like I did.
